August 27-28, 2016

Traditional or ‘trad’ climbing is when the climbing party places all of its own safety equipment, and removes it as they pass along the climb. If you wish to climb at Cathedral Ledge, The Gunks, or Yosemite, this is the type of climbing you’ll be doing. In this two-day intensive workshop, you’ll learn to be a safe, informed ‘trad’ climbing partner. We’ll cover lead and top rope belaying, basic knots, hardware including ropes and protection, anchoring yourself on a multi-pitch climb, how to ‘clean’ a pitch, descending (including rappelling), safety considerations, reading a guidebook, route finding and etiquette. We’ll also do plenty of climbing! Appropriate for beginner and intermediate climbers.

Your $350 investment includes gear outfitting, two full climbing days and Saturday evening group dinner.

“Positive attitudes, lots of climbing and absolutely no pressure for anyone to do anything they were uncomfortable with, lots of options for what to do- a good intro to ‘trad’ climbing.” -Ladies Only Participant
